Boyle hit with water restrictions for over-consumption

BOYLE - The Alberta government has ordered a community north of Edmonton to immediately reduce its water consumption.

The Village of Boyle is licensed to draw about 185,000 cubic metres of water out of Skeleton Lake each year, but so far this year it has drawn almost 195,000 cubic metres from the lake.

The province says it will work with the village on a water conservation plan, which could include installing meters, detecting leaks, reducing consumption by industrial users and developing a public awareness campaign.

The plan must be submitted to Alberta Environment by Dec. 7.
