Labour Day at the Lake a Huge Success
Over 400 people attended Labour Day at the Lake at the old Boy Scout Camp on September 2, 2007. SLSA raised over $12,000 from this event. More than 300 beef dinners and 12 dozen hot-dogs were purchased by thoese in attendance. The information session was well received and the music was wonderful.
It was a great day of community spirit and the venue was spectacular. There were kids running around the fields with their faces painted, neighbours sitting around talking, ultimate frisbee in one field, 3 legged races, Bocce ball and horseshoe tournaments. The lake, the sunshine and the music provided a gorgeous backdrop for this wonderful event. What a great day!
See you again next year - The Browns have agreed to let us use the Scout camp again, Phil Jones will work his magic in arranging the music and Peter Sherman has agreed to take care of food again.
The SLSA would like to thank everyone that worked so hard to make this such a great event. It was wonderful how everything came together with everyone pitching in to help out.
In particular, SLSA would like to thank the following people:
- Phil and Diane Jones for putting together an amazing line-up of talented musicians and the sound technician as well as for their artistic talents on the signs they made.
- All of the musicians who so generously donated their talents
- Peter from Pied Piper Productions for his donation of his equipment and talent.
- Jim and Jeanne Brown for letting us use their property and for all of the work they did in preparing the site. You two are wonderful people and great supporters and we appreciate your generosity.
- Peter Sherman and his family and work crew. Peter never realized what a talented chef he is! We turned all aspects of the food organization, planning and preparation over to Peter and he did an incredible job.
- Gord Bentham for bringing the floats, sitting at the membership table all day collecting donations and making sure we had financial control of the event.
- Orest Kitt for doing the electrical hook-ups, taking care of site organization, bottle and refuse collection and putting up North basin notices.
- Andrea Pawlowski for taking pictures, taking charge of the kids games, prizes, emails to members and getting a crew of helpers and first-aiders out.
- Rick Tiedemann and the amazing Tiedemann crew. Rick lined up tents and porta-potties and first aid personnel and manned the information booth. He and his crew took pictures and helped out everywhere and were invaluable in set-up and take-down of the tents and booths.
- Andrea Johnston for her artistic talents in putting together the signs that went up around the lake and in town.
- Bernie Prusko and the Shoreline gang for donating the prizes and running that fundraiser, the 50/50 and for help cutting the beef and serving dinner.
- John Wowk for obtaining the ice and picking it up and delivering it on-site and for helping out with Andrea's kids booth.
- Steve Curial for updating the website with notices of the event and putting together the pictures of the event on the website.
- Wilf and Marg Tiedemann for running the dinner sales booth.
- Leanne Johnston & her friends, the Tiedemann's and others whose names I never did know for doing face-painting and helping with kids games.
- Carey Ewanik for running the SLSA membership booth.
- Peter Chapman and his wife for taking on the parking duties.
- Roy Nilsen for loaning us his camper as a first aid center, for loaning us his golf cart to ferry elderly people around, for helping wherever he was needed and for bringing fourty people to our event on his birthday because his kids threw a surprise birthday party for him and he wouldn't let that interfere with helping us run our event.
- Don Johnston for helping with set-up and clean up and for bringing the biggest electrical cord anyone had ever seen.
- Marc Curial for taking pictures.
- Jim and Leon Romaniuk for covering the cost of the porta-potties and for changing the date of the Harnaha golf tournament so Harnaha members could join us on Sunday.
- Ed Beres for arranging the musicians tent, the barbecue (including pick-up, cleaning and return) and lending a helping hand.
- All of the donations of food, propane, ice, gifts, prizes, tents etc - I don't even have a full list of the businesses that supported us through their donations yet.
- The work crew including Phil Jones, Orest Kitt, Peter Sherman, Bernie Prusko, Steve Curial, Don Johnston, James Brown, Ed Beres, Rick Tiedemann, Joel Tiedemann, Roy Nilsen and others, who came out on Saturday morning to set up the site and again on Monday morning to clean up the site (I know there were others but I didn't even see everyone as people just jumped in where needed and got the job done).
- EVERYONE ELSE - I know I will have forgotten some people and for that I apologize. We value everyone's contribution and anyone that is missed is due simply to my poor memory and the fact that many people just jumped in and helped out where they were needed. Thanks to everyone.
